About myself

My name is Arne. Now it should be easy to guess my surname too.
I was born and grew up in Bavaria, Southern Germany, and currently I am living in Central Germany.

I would describe myself as someone who is full of curiosity, inquisitive and open minded.
In general, I have a weakness for art and aesthetics, theory and abstract thought.

My main interests are literature, philosophy and history.

Furthermore I also occupy myself with programming, both professionally and privately.
In that regard I quickly developed (no pun intended) a fascination with and passion for GNU/Linux, free/libre open-source software and minimalist software.
I have basic knowledge of C, Java, and Shell/Bash Scripting, and I am most proficient in web development with everything related: JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Node.js, HTML & CSS, etc.

My non-sedentary hobbies include light strength and endurance training, hiking in nature as well as exploring smaller (and larger) places apart from the big cities.

Maybe some words on the things I do not like: I have a strong aversion to hypocrisy, double standards, injustice and restrictions on free thought. Intellectual paternalism and supervised thinking are unbearable to me. I have a critical view on following hypes, trends and unreflected group dynamics.

With this it should come as little surprise that I am not active on social media, with the exception of YouTube.

About this website

This website was born from the wish to have my own “home” on the internet.
A place that wholly belongs to me, that I can adapt exactly to my liking, where I am independent and only have to follow my own rules and where I can share book reviews and general thoughts and reflections.

As a nice side effect, I wanted to improve my knowledge and proficiency in setting up and operating a web server.

The website is created with the static site generator Hugo and runs on Argo, a theme written by myself. In case you are interested in more details about the technology and formation process behind this site, my second post on here is all about that topic.
